Therapy with me

We will work together to understand where your past experiences intersect with your current strengths and struggles. My focus is on healing and improving your relationships from the inside out. In other words, healing begins within you.

 Theoretical Orientation

I practice therapy using a holistic psychodynamic framework that integrates different schools of psychotherapeutic thought. This allows me to tailor my approach to your individual needs because therapy is never one-size-fits-all. I will integrate these therapies to guide you through an exploration of your past, present, and future potential.

I view therapy as a collaborative and interactive process for both therapist and client. I use humor, warmth, and empathy to build our trusting therapeutic relationship. The safety in our relationship will serve as the starting point on your journey of self-exploration.

I am compassionate, genuine, curious and supportive and I will challenge you and give feedback to help you improve your self-understanding and relationships with others.

  • Relationships are crucial for survival. Our brains are wired to need others. Our relationship will serve as a roadmap for relationships outside of the therapeutic space. We will talk about our relationship often as we discuss relationships in your outside life. We will use your history—your “origin story”—to understand who are today, why you form relationships the way you do, and why you attach and connect the way you do. Understanding old wounds and defense mechanisms will allow you the space to heal and move forward with healthy relationships with yourself and with others.

  • I believe that people are inherently good and worthy. Everything you need to grow, change, and heal is already within you. We will focus on your strengths and use positive psychology to help you embrace your truest self and lead the most fulfilling life. We all have our own way of looking at the world based on our own experiences—this framework allows us to embrace these nuances.

  • There are moments in life where we just do not have the bandwidth to dig deep in the way that my psychodynamic practice entails. In these moments I may ask you if you want to be nudged or if you want me to problem-solve with you, provide you with skills, or take on a “coach” or “teaching” role.

  • I work with people from all different socio-cultural identities, races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, genders. I come from a place of cultural humility where I know that I simply do not know everything. I am open, affirming, curious, and non-judgmental. In order to build safety in our therapeutic space, we may have conversations about our differing or shared identities.

  • You are the expert on you, I view the therapeutic relationship as egalitarian (I try to limit the inherent power dynamic wherever I can). I aim to empower you to reach your fullest potential, to understand who you are, and to understand the oppressive forces that may keep you from being that person in all contexts. The socio-political context that we live within affects us all. Therapy is a space to process emotions related to current events that may be impacting you.
